I joined this pack sort of by accident or by fate depending on how you look at it. The Desert Dog humans fostered my mom and
all my brothers and sisters before they actually opened their doors in March 2006. See, they had all that room at Desert
Dog and they were there all the time getting it ready to open so when my family needed somewhere to stay since we didn’t
have a home, and my brothers and sisters and I were only five weeks old so we weren’t ready to leave our mom yet, we
moved in at Desert Dog. It was great – we kept those humans on their toes – we made sure they were well prepared to take
care of dogs. We chewed everything we could find, ate constantly, marked every square inch of our territory each and every
night (for some reason our smell was removed each morning!?!), made sure that any tool that was being used was immediately
hidden somewhere so that it would not distract their attention from us and best of all, demanded lots of loving
every day. When we were about ten weeks old, a weird thing started happening….other humans started coming to
play with us and I noticed my brothers and sisters started disappearing, one by one. One day I looked around
and they were all gone…even my mom was gone. That day, the Desert Dog humans took me to a much smaller but
cozy place where I spent the night with Uncle Murray and Uncle Morgan (and this crazy spotted creature that
sat on the couch licking herself – I still don’t know how she got her leg up like that!!). Every night since
then, after I play at daycare all day, I’ve been going to that cozy place which I now call home…and Uncle Murray
and Uncle Morgan are now my brothers…and that crazy creature on the couch, she’s my sister Callie and I love
chasing her around the house and yard - she’s even learned how to wrestle with me though afterwards she still
goes up on that couch and does that licking thing!
Mesa's story
I am the newest member of this pack and the first girl! In January 2009
my world changed….first these humans come to the house where I was living with my mom and siblings, they put me
in their car with three big boy dogs (which actually turned out to be three really nice boy dogs) and then they
took me to this fantastic playland filled with lots of other really nice dogs, tunnels to run through, things to
jump on (or hide under if you’re my size!) and I can run, romp and play until my hearts content – I’ve heard my
humans say they are pretty happy about that too because I’m really tired when I get home! I am learning lots of
new tricks, like if I sit in the front office and look really sweet, the humans that are coming to pick up their
dogs give me lots of love and even better, lots of treats while they wait for the dogs. Now I spend my days with
all of my new friends and my nights on a cozy bed next to my brothers…I sure hope my other brothers and sisters
get to do all of the fun stuff that I get to do every day!!
